Jon and Laura met the old fashion way - on a dating app - matching shortly after New Years in 2024. They were drawn to each other's profiles through their mutual love of pets, baking, and community service. After talking for a while and some first date rescheduling (which ended up being a good thing), they finally met up for dinner. The night included good, but a little nervous, conversation, tasty Venezuelan food, and one unfortunate parking ticket. With everything said and done, both left with a confidence that this was something special.
From their first date on, it was an instant connection. Making cupcakes, hiking local metroparks, touring the Columbus coffee trail, and exploring the city that they both were transplants to became their every weekend. The more that they got to know each other, the better the match seemed to be. Before long they were dancing in the kitchen, making up silly character voices, scrapbooking every adventure and constantly expanding their repertoire of obscure inside jokes.
More and more conversations began focusing on the future and soon, Laura was hinting pretty hard that she had a ring on the mind. Ever the thoughtful and creative romantic, Jon surprised Laura by proposing on May 10, 2025 at Franklin Park Conservatory, one week before their long awaited vacation to Calgary and Banff National Park in Canada, where Laura was expecting the proposal to occur.
And the rest, as they say, is history!
